Moving!
I’m moving this weekend! Woo!
And to track the things I’ll need to buy — an Amazon list!
Plus a trashcan for which I need dimensions.
Headspace: Day 1
Headspace is doing some promo at work, so I’m giving it a shot. I’ve never been good at meditating (or sitting still in any way, really) so I thought that 10 minutes a day sounded manageable and the program seems to have pretty good reviews online.
I tried to do day 1 last night, but promptly fell asleep. I suppose trying to meditate past midnight while sitting on your bed may not be a recipe for success. So I tried again this morning. The breathe in through you nose, out through your mouth part makes me sneeze, but it was an otherwise somewhat relaxing ten minutes.
We’ll see how goes over the next ten days… (It’s a 10 day starter program)
Salt Crusted Fish
1 fish (two small trout in this case) — skin on
lots of salt
1 egg white per cup of salt
Mix the egg white in the salt, put a half an inch layer on the baking sheet, put the fish down, bury in an even crust of salt. Bake for 15 minutes at 450F.
The skin protects the fish from being oversalted. I seasoned the fish with all the normal seasonings, but skipped the salt. The resulting fish was well salted.

Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake
It sounds weird, but it’s delicious. And I took no pictures.
Recipe from here, via this list.
Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake
7 large marshmallows
3 scoops vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup fresh milk
5 slices graham crackers
Toast marshmallows & put everything in the blender.
We unintentionally did science, and it seems that handfuls of small marshmallows give you more toasty bits than 7 big marshmallows. Also, broiling the mini marshmallows with the cookie sheet in the middle of the oven for a couple minutes did the trick.
Oops.
I shipped myself to the Philippines for five weeks, sans Lightroom and never updated! Good job, self.
But, so I don’t lose it — recipe for Starbucks Butterbeer:
– A Creme Frappuccino base
– Add 3 pumps of caramel syrup
– Add 3 pumps of toffee nut syrup
– Top with caramel drizzle
…It sounds incredibly sweet, but I’ll try it anyway.
Berkeley: Eternal Cake
New Plants!
an air plant (about to bloom!) in my dinosaur planter
another air plant, in a seashell
all three purchased from the super super awesome Cactus Jungle in Berkeley.
Espadrilles!
While wandering around Madrid, I stumbled upon Casa Hernandez, an alpargateria… Which is apparently what you call an espadrille maker.
They have tons and tons of materials (for custom orders) and shoe style samples in the window.
Once you’re in (after the crazy line), you order (all in Spanish) and try things on. In my case, by showing the clerk pictures of the styles I want and babbling in broken Spanish with lots of hand gestures.
Purchased:
1 pair of denim espadrilles, €5.75
1 pair of black crochet espadrilles, €19.50
1 pair of beige heeled wedges, €25
…crazy.
